National Museum, San Jose

The national museum is in the old military barracks.  Part of the history of this place is told in the fact that the military was disbanded in 1948, when Costa Rica chose to be a nation of peace and  conservation...  Another old military building is the Children's museum.  We are inspired to wonder what else might be possible when countries choose not to go to war, anymore?

La Paz, Butterfly. There were so many gorgeous, colorful butterflies to enjoy in the butterfly garden. I love this one, camouflaged in an exquisite display.

La Paz, Waterfall

La Paz, Tree Frog

This is a Red Eyed Tree Frog, an image which many have in mind when they think of Costa Rica.  Another gorgeous example of this countries amazing biodiversity...and cute, too!

La Paz....

Funnel spiders web, covered with dew.

Friendly fella at La Paz Waterfall Gardens! This black mandibled toucan was well behaved, as he stood on each proffered arm in our group. It was thrilling to feel his weight, which reminds you quickly that his bill is much lighter than it looks!

Gorgeous trees by the hotel!

These are Poro trees, commonly planted to shade coffee plants!  And they are spectacular in the landscape.... What wonderful  trees to "welcome" us to our home in San Juan.

Flight to San Juan!

28 of us made our way to San Juan, arriving to a warm welcome at the Airport.  "Welcome Rostad" signs greeted us as we moved from customs to baggage handling.  Our airport transfer went smoothly, luggage loaded, meeting our guide, and the short drive to the hotel.  We received our room keys on the bus!!! So from bus to hotel rooms to settle in and rest up for dinner, time went quickly and pleasantly.  Supper was delicious, and then it was off to sleep, ready to start touring bright and early Thursday morning!

Visit to National Museum, San Juan. Stone Spheres are on display, their origins cloaked in mystery. Part of the nations heritage, we enjoyed considering the possibilities...
